The director, Kyle Boatwright, mentioned this Leonard Cohen line to me when describing some themes she found important while working on Next to Normal. This Pulitzer Prize-winning musical looks at the ripple effects of mental illness, stress, grief, secrets, and tremendous love, and asks what actually constitutes reality.
The poster itself is a still life of a memory. Vivid, but unclear. The letters float above the blurred and oversaturated image of a music box. Some are drifting away. Mementos disappearing into the background.
